1. Cataract Surgery

• Definition: The procedure to remove the eye’s natural lens when it loses transparency (cataract) and becomes cloudy, replacing it with an artificial lens (intraocular lens – IOL).

• Technology: Phacoemulsification (PHACO) is the current gold standard. A micro-incision is made, the cloudy lens is emulsified and removed using ultrasonic energy, and a foldable lens is implanted. It requires no stitches and recovery is rapid.

• Premium IOL (Intraocular Lens) Options:

  • Monofocal Lens: Corrects distance vision; glasses may be needed for near vision.

2. Refractive Surgery (Laser Vision Correction)

• Primary Laser Techniques:

  • LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis): The most common method. A protective flap is created, the underlying corneal tissue is reshaped with an excimer laser, and the flap is repositioned. Offers quick recovery.

  • LASEK/PRK (Laser-Assisted SubEpithelial Keratectomy/Photorefractive Keratectomy): No flap is created. The cornea’s outermost epithelial layer is removed or thinned, and the laser is applied. Suitable for individuals with thin corneas or in high-risk professions (e.g., boxers).

  • SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction): A state-of-the-art, flapless procedure. A lenticule is created within the cornea using a laser and removed through a small incision. It is less invasive and has a lower risk of dry eye.

3. Glaucoma (Eye Pressure) Treatments
